Chevres en equilibre- Goats Balancing on a Steel Ribbon.

It never ceases to amaze me and millions
of others to watch animals or people
doing goofy things.
These goats in France were balancing
on an undulating piece of sheet metal
that you could probably watch on loop.
Like any great viral movement,
it is hard to describe or why we enjoy it.

These three goats enjoying their version of king-of-the-hill.

The video was posted this week and has already
spiked at over 6 million viewers.

This description, in his native French, roughly translates to:

Sunday, around lunch time, the little family discovered a new game. This sheet. I filmed my goats (whose names will remain secret out of respect for their privacy:) ) balancing. In the evening, I wanted to send it to one friend then everything followed very quickly. I don’t think they [the goats] realize what’s happening. They still ruminate over it as if nothing had happened…
Whose having the most fun? Not sure at all.

A Hunk Of Planet Dissolves Before Our Eyes

A Hunk Of Planet Dissolves Before Our Eyes

It begins with a growl.
Then there’s a crack — a slurpy, sucky, crunchy noise.
A guy is on the phone, and his pal interrupts him and says,
“It’s starting, Adam, I think. Adam? It’s starting …”

The two are up on a bluff, overlooking a giant ice field.
They are standing next to time-lapse cameras.
What happens next is astonishing:
An enormous frozen, icy hunk of our planet suddenly opens,
splits into bits and then sinks right before our eyes into the sea.
It happens so, so quickly.
And the scale of it?
That’s the part that shocked me.
When they superimpose part of Manhattan Island
onto the ice at the end of the clip,
you think, “Uh oh.”
This is a peek into something monstrous.

The video comes from photographer James Balog’s film, CHASING ICE.
The two guys on the bluff at the beginning
are part of Balog’s Extreme Ice Survey team,
which maintains scores of time-lapse cameras
overlooking glaciers in Greenland, Iceland, Alaska, Canada,
the Rockies and the Himalayas.
During daylight hours, they watch and record.
Then they share what they see with scientists and National Geographic,
and turn the footage into movies and TV shows.

Losing All The Ice In The World? Let Me Calculate …

What they’re seeing, of course, is ice disappearing from mountain tops,
from ice fields, from the poles.

Perito Moreno Glacier LagoArgentina Glacier calving
Seeing it go this quickly in so many places,
raises the obvious question:
How long will it be before there isn’t any ice left?
We’ve had such moments before in earth history;
it’s certainly possible. We have lived in a gentle age where,
every winter, one can take a trip to someplace white
to see a snowy mountaintop,
a distant glacier creeping down a slope,
or an iceberg in the distance.
Come summer, the whiteness retreats.
It’s a lovely balance.
But how long will that last?

When Henry Pollack
(a professor emeritus of geophysics at the University of Michigan)
was asked,
he answered, “Losing all the ice in the world?
I think sometime between a thousand and 10,000 years
encompasses most probabilities.”

Glacier2

A thousand years is not a lot of time.
As says in , Apocalyptic Planet,
10 centuries ago Europeans were busy building cathedrals.
Chinese merchants were sending flotillas to trade with Africans.
“I was thinking we had more time,” Craig says.

Konrad Steffen thinks Craig is right.
A University of Colorado climatologist,
Steffen figures (or figured, a couple of years ago)
that Greenland might be iceless in 10,000 years,
but Antarctica (being much bigger)
will take a lot longer to turn bare.

But that’s an endpoint.
It’s the middle passage
that has so many scientists worried.
Steffen tells Childs,
“Greenland and Antarctica are very remote,
and were considered to be big ice boxes
that responded not very fast to climate change.
We never developed a mechanism to observe them
until we had satellites and lasers.
Now we see some surfaces lowering up to 50 meters per year.”
He repeated that number, to make sure Craig heard.
“Fifty — five-zero — meters per year.”
That’s a vertical drop of about 150 feet.
In two years, that’s 300 feet.
Then 450.
Year after year — enormous piles of ice melting into the sea.

A lot of water. Coming our way.

Tardy Surfer Resorts To Cliff Jumping To Catch Up To His Competition

It looks like it takes real commitment when you really want something, you go for it!
Hope you love this as much as I did!
The Postgame Staff.

A surfer in Santa Cruz was running late for his competition so he was forced to improvise.

That improvisation came in the form of a jump off a cliff 30 feet high and into the Pacific Ocean.

“He timed it perfectly,” photographer Allen Hughes told The Daily Mail.

The same could be said of Hughes, who captured the spectacular photo of this anonymous surfer in midair as a huge wave cascaded behind him.

BP2_CATERS_Surfer_Jumping_Into_A_Wave_01

Hughes was alert to the possibility that an intriguing scenario was unfolding at Lighthouse Point.

“Everyone else was watching the surfers out at sea, but then I noticed this guy running along Lighthouse Point,” Hughes told the Mail. “I watched for quite a while and before each heat the surfers would climb down to the end of Lighthouse Point and make a smaller 10 foot jump.

“I noticed this guy run down to the end, he was late for his heat.”

That was Hughes’ cue to lock in on him.

“I could tell he was anxious so I focused my camera on him and before anyone knew it, he ran and jumped off the cliff,” Hughes said. “He timed it perfectly and landed just behind the white water and paddled out. I never did find out who he was. The cliff itself must be 30 foot high and the waves were maybe higher.”

Although we can all marvel at the artistic quality of Hughes’ shot, it ought not to be overlooked that the surfer got away with a rash decision. Not to be a ghoulish buzzkill here, but the outcome could’ve been far less favorable.

Hopefully this was crazy enough to dissuade any copycats jumpers, and perhaps it can be a lesson to all surfers: Pay attention to the time.

For those hardcore photography buffs that might be curious about the gear, according to Metro, Hughes, 65, captured the moment with a Nikon D300S.

3 Tips to Make Your Life Easier

How come no one ever told me?

You’ve probably been ignoring this feature.
I know I did not know these 3 tips to make your life easier.

FOIL WRAP BOXES

ALuminum FOil

HERE is TIP #1
Most aluminum foil boxes have press-in tabs
that secure the roll in place, so you don’t
have worry about it flying out every time
you rip off a sheet.

You’ve been dispensing Tic Tacs the hard way.

A TIC Tac

TIP # 2
You know how when you violently
shake a container of Tic Tacs
into your palm it seems as though
you always end up with zero or seven?
Avoid that altogether by letting a
mint gently glide into the tiny lid crevice.

Ketchup Cups at Fast Food Restaurants

a Ketchup cup

Tip #3
Instead of grabbing multiple cups of ketchup,
simply pull apart at the edges for twice the space.

Now for the BONUS Tip #4…

Soft-drink lids can double as coasters.

3 Tips to Make Your Life Easier

8 Hawaii Rentals That Will Put Your Hotel To Shame

In Denver, recently I chose to stay in a
Victorian House that I was very pleased with,
instead of the usual hotels,
elevators full of people,

and expensive restaurants
in hotel or nearby.
IT was a fabulous way
to spend time in a location..

My choice worked out great, so if you have
a sense of adventure, even just a little bit,

this is one option that will cut down costs,
and get you closer to the experience you want-
if you want to be a part of the town you are visiting!

Hawaii is a place like no other,
so if you come to visit, why not stay
in a home like no other.

Picture yourself in a yurt, micro-house,
tree house, or even a yacht on a mountain.
That’s right, a yacht on top of a mountain.

Here are eight of the smallest, tallest, weirdest and, in their own way, Hawaii-est homes to rent on AirBnB.

1. Chic Eco Yurt Home Pahoa, Big Island
o-YURT-AIRBNB-570

First used by nomads in Central Asia,
yurts are rotund, portable homes.
This particular yurt boasts a
“food island” of passion fruit,
mango, avocado and sweet potato
growing outside its door.
Yurting is sort of like
luxury camping

(which apparently is called glamping these days)

but you still have to have your survival hat on.
For instance, the yurt is
BYOPT — bring your own propane tank —

if you want to cook or use hot water.

2. Kailua Coconut Micro-House Kailua, Oahuo-MICROHOUSE-AIRBNB-570
Personally designed and built by its loving owners,
the Kailua Coconut micro-house spans a proud 80 square feet.
The charm of this lovely nest is in the details —
the outdoor shower has a
Japanese geta shoe sculpture
as its door handle,
tiki face carvings pop out
of the walls, and the windows
above the bed have intricate fish
etched into the glass.
Due to its itty bitty size, you are not allowed
to cook inside the house, but who needs
to cook when you can pick a mango tree
from your lanai (outdoor porch)?

3. Kealakekua Bay Bali Cottage Captain Cook, Big Island
o-BALI-AIRBNB-570
The Bali Cottage was built with
old Bali teak panels and features
not only an outdoor shower but the
much rarer outdoor kitchen.

The yard has a pond and tiki torches,
and is moments away from Kealakekua Bay,
which is home to dolphins, manta rays,
and sea turtles. The bay is most famous
due to Captain James Cook, who was the
first European to land on the Hawaiian Islands,

and who was later killed by Hawaiian villagers
at Kealakekua Bay in 1779.

4. Unique Yacht on a Mountain Haleiwa, Oahu
o-BOAT-AIRBNB-570

The Brainstorm was a faithful vessel
whose glory days conquering the seas have passed.
The current owners took pity on the
retired boat and in a stroke of
what we can only consider utter genius,
hauled it to the top of a
mountain on the north shore of Oahu.

Tucked away in the woods, the boat’s backyard
is a maze of gorgeous trails that
go deep into valleys and
high above the ocean.
But don’t be mistaken,
you’re still on a yacht,
shielded by a glass roof,
surrounded by a giant mosquito net
and stocked with a
flat screen TV and wifi.

5. The Matted Root Kilauea, Kauai
o-TREEHOUSE-AIRBNB-570

This treehouse overlooks an expansive,
lush green property replete with
papaya, avocado and coconut trees.

Our favorite detail of this Kauai treehouse
is the outdoor bathroom system.
Instead of a lock,
there is a rock outside the door
: turn it to one side to say “OK”
or the other to say “Wait.”
Take a ride on the giant tire swing
in your yard before grabbing a bike
and heading to
Moloaa Bay,
which you
really can’t miss considering it was
one of the original shooting locations
for
Gilligan’s Island.

Maybe just a three hour tour?

6. North Shore Eco Hideaway Waialua, Oahuo-ECO-LODGE-AIRBNB-570

This abode at the base of Mt. Ka’ala,
Oahu’s highest peak, is entirely off
the grid thanks to solar panels and a
private water well. Nestled in a
gorgeous river valley without a
neighbor in sight, the eco lodge
is composed of a giant safari tent
and a 200 square-foot lanai.
Walk a mile to the neighboring
organic farm, buy your produce
directly from the farmer and
cut it up in your outdoor kitchen.

It doesn’t get more farm to table than that.

7. The Tree House Haiku, Maui
o-BALI-HUT-AIRBNB-570

If you ship it, they will come.
This tree hut was built in Bali,
shipped to Maui and set atop a
17-acre private valley with ocean views.

You may have to walk to both the kitchen and bathroom,
but the artist’s property is
covered in steel sculptures
you can peruse along your way.

8. Octagon Studio Makawao, Maui
o-OCTAGON-STUDIO-AIRBNB-570
We saved the smelliest for last.
The Octagon Studio is located at the

Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui’s
“botanical educational estate and farm.”
What does that mean? You can roam the gardens,
pick your favorite plants and use “atomizers”
to create your own scents.

You can even get onsite aromatherapy massages.

In fact, there’s no avoiding immersing yourself
in the fragrances of the Aromatherapy Foundation —
any overnight residents are
required to participate in a
study on essential oils for five minutes a day.
Oh, and your digs happen to be a
gorgeous studio with ocean views and
an in-ground jacuzzi.

Not too stinky.

Children Swimmers Made Safer by Dad’s Invention, WAHOO Swim Monitoring System

The Wilton YMCA summer camp in Wilton, Conn.,
offers kids a classic summertime experience.
Hundreds of children make use of the camps’ amenities,
including its natural pond swimming hole.
headband1_635x250_1377635827

Everyone is required to wear a headband,
containing technology that alerts lifeguards
when a child’s head is underwater too long.

This Headband makes this Swimming facility the safest in the nation.

The first WAHOO Swim Monitoring System
was installed in Wilton YMCA in the
United States.

To keep its swimmers safe, the
Wilton YMCA employs a legion of lifeguards,
its main line of defense.

Keeping inexperienced swimmers safe is a never-ending issue.

A Swimming bike helmet.
Here is how it works.

Swimmers wear a headband around their head,
which Wahooo co-founder Dave Cutler refers to as the
“bike helmet for swimming.” The “Swimbands“ have two
sensors on each side, with a microprocessor computer
in the middle. When both sides of the head are submerged,
the microprocessor times it. If the Swimband is submerged
for a dangerous period of time, it transmits a signal to
listening devices that are around the entire swimming environment.
When the Swimband is submerged for 20 seconds,
the alert towers will flash yellow.
After 30 seconds, the system will flash red.

If a swimmer stays under too long,
your Swimband sends a signal.
The swim monitoring units flash to
let the lifeguards know.

“One of the biggest challenges we have
in camp is in the dark water.
It’s difficult to see to the bottom,
so this is just another aid for the lifeguards
who may not notice somebody at the
bottom of the water,” says Britton.

The INSPIRATION

In 2006, tragedy struck a
Connecticut swimming hole. A 9-year old
boy nearly drowned and was permanently injured.
Cutler and his partners believe their
swim monitoring technology can prevent
tragedies like this in the future.

A pool … without lifeguards?

Not quite yet.
The Wahooo Swim Monitoring
system is meant to be used as a fail-safe,
not a replacement for human lifeguards.

Government statistics point to about
10 unintentional drownings every day
in United States.
Swim Monitoring could help in keeping
swimmers safe and families together.

World’s Marijuana Friendly Countries, Cheech & Chong

Top Ten Pot Weed Movies. Cheech & Chong minute 5:05

Uruguay is set to make the country
the first in the world to create a
state-run marijuana industry — fixing
the price at a point low enough to
squeeze the black market and allowing
the government to control cultivation
and distribution. This Landmark legislation
bill has the backing of President José Mujica,
who has dismissed charges that legalizing
marijuana could lead people to try harder drugs.

“It’s actually the opposite,” he told CNN.
“People seek crack and other more dangerous
poisons when they have no access to marijuana.”
Whether the government becomes a major dealer
may depend on the price and quality of the weed,
which people would be allowed to grow for themselves.

Uruguay is the first country to announce plans to
nationalize the pot business, but there are plenty
of other places where you can smoke freely.
Marijuana is not classified as a drug in North Korea,
soldiers and manual laborers smoke it as a
popular way to wind down after a long day.
Possessing small amounts for personal use
has been decriminalized in many European
and South American countries, and the
policies have been shown to have little
impact on drug use. After Portugal eliminated
criminal penalties for drug users in 2001,
shifting resources from law enforcement to
drug prevention and rehabilitation programs,
a number of metrics (see infographic for details)
pointed to the experiment’s success.
On a Humorous note, minute 5:04 is where
Cheech and Chong were THE breakout
movie duo to highlight Pot.

Good Samaritan Pays Stranger’s Baggage Fee at Airport, Pay it Forward

I wanted to rewrite this article but
you know, it was so good all by itself
and I know that even though it is kind of
long.. you WILL read it all.

Let me know how you helped someone else,
PAY IT FORWARD
Being a Giving person has no boundaries
and always gives back in untold ways.

Payitforward

  Having your credit card declined
can be awkward and humiliating.

But it’s an even worse experience
if you’re at the airport,
rushing to make your flight,
and when it comes time to
dole out the mandatory fee
to check a bag, the airline employee
lets you know
that your card won’t go through.
Confused, you step out of line
to check your balance.
You just know your
card isn’t maxed out
and should be able to
cover the expense.

  Redditor brbmycatexploded recently
experienced this exact situation
at Tampa International Airport.

  “Having my card declined was
extremely embarrassing, even
though I didn’t know a
single soul in that airport,”
the Reddit user, who asked to
be identified by just his
first name, Andy.

His story has a happy ending, though.
When he returned to the counter,
a Good Samaritan had generously
paid his baggage fee and left a note:

“Hey, I heard them say your card was declined.
I know how it feels. Your bag fee’s on me.
Just pay it forward the next time you get a chance.
Have a safe flight. :)”

On Wednesday, Andy posted a
photo of the note on Reddit
and wrote,
“If you’re reading this,
thanks for making my day.”

The kind deed didn’t just
have a financial impact.
“Seriously, reading their note
gave me goosebumps and gave me
faith that there are still
good people out there,”
Andy shared with Shine.

But he’s not going to plan out
how he’ll pay it forward.
“I think it will be a
random decision, a
spur-of-the-moment type thing,”
he explained. “I really don’t
think that that person walked
into that airport, saying,
‘I’m going to pay someone’s
baggage fee today.’
So neither will I.”

The random-act-of-kindness post
has inspired other Redditors to
share how they’ve spontaneously
helped strangers or vice versa.

Poundt0wn described that while
on vacation with his family,
a man approached poundt0wn’s
father with a flower and asked
him if he would buy it so that
he could use the money to
purchase food for his family.
Poundt0wn’s dad pulled out $100
and gave it to the man.
“Fifteen minutes later,”
wrote poundt0wn,
“we see the same guy walking
on the sidewalk again.
This time, he had at least 10 bags
of groceries hanging from his arms,
one of which contained diapers.”

Redditor jacenborne explained
that while at a Chick-fil-A drive-through,
a woman in front of him paid for his meal.
There was no one behind him,
so he couldn’t return the favor.
“But it was such a happy moment
of human benevolence that is
rarely seen in society,”
commented jacenborne.
pay it forward
During a trip to an auto parts store,
Synssins noticed a woman
with two kids leaving the
store without a battery she
needed for her car, since
she couldn’t afford it.
The Redditor kindly
bought the battery and installed it
for her. “I asked her to pop her hood,
and she at first looked at me like,
‘What?’ and then saw what I had with me.
She asked me why, and I just said,
‘Because someone did something nice for me once.’
I installed her battery while she was crying and thanking me.”

Another Reddit user commented that
while in a convenience store at 3 a.m.,
a man was purchasing diapers, milk,
formula, and toilet paper,
but his card was declined.
As he was calculating which
necessities he really needed,
ThatSpuds came to his rescue.
“So I walk up to the counter
and give the guy $20,” ThatSpuds wrote.
“I don’t say a word,
and I don’t expect anything in return,
not even a thank you.
But the guy turns around.
Gets on his knees and
wraps his arms around me
and tells me that
I have just made a profound difference.”

PAY IT FORWARD Rewards ALL!

ThatSpuds added,
“So pay it forward with all of your might,
because someone out there is depending on you.”
